mildly psychedelic folk pop gleaned from THE MAMAS & THE PAPAS and JEFFERSON AIRPLANE filtered through the heady singer songwriter country rock of DAVID CROSBY and NEIL YOUNG, sometimes arriving in a roundabout fashion to a sound similar to earliest / best LITTLE FEAT or PURE PRAIRIE LEAGUE, other times decidedly more moody a la GRAM PARSONS or TOWNES VAN ZANDT - maybe think FLEETWOOD MAC's RUMOURS meets SONGS: OHIA's DIDN'T IT RAIN - that's kinda what i hear when i hear "a night of love" and "dues" - the latter gets a potent shot in the arm that revs it up into DARK ROUND THE EDGES "maypole" territory
NUMERO again delivers my #1 reissue of the year shoo-in, akin to last year's exalted reissue of JEFF COWELL's LUCKY STRIKES AND LIQUID GOLD (goin way back to REC #17) - unfortunately this is strictly limited to 1000 copies via NUMERO's mail order subscription series PROJECT 12, which i more or less signed up for just to get my hands on this, not that i haven't enjoyed the other PROJECT 12 titles so far, but this is clearly the crown jewel - i digress - despite the hyped "mail order subscription" exclusivity, i'm not convinced - in any case it looks like you can still subscribe to PROJECT 12, i can't imagine for much longer though
