keeps doin what he does best, better than ever by my measure - THE OUTSIDE INFLATION is an hour of overcast ambient tape loop manipulation, continuing his trajectory of elegantly simple yet profound BASINSKI esque loop construction and disintegration meets ENO's AMBIENT 4 dynamic ambient bliss via SKITTISH ARM's signature noir style i can't get enough of no matter how hard i try, building on last year's phenomenal I DON'T KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO TO RIGHT MYSELF AGAIN with a more varied yet still smartly reserved approach, further incorporating minimal and modern classical elements, balancing the gloomy haze with threads of focused intensity and holy respite, finding some contemporary comparison to GREG GORLEN and SEAN MCCANN, but like those artists SKITTISH ARM is ever increasingly out there on his own making some of the best ambient music being made today

a fixture in the experimental folk scene for more than a decade now, more recently as a solo artist and as RAISING HOLY SPARKS frontman, also as a member of the long tenured UNITED BIBLE STUDIES (with AINE O'DWYER and MICHAEL TANNER and others, which now seems like a super group of sorts) - A MELBOURNE NOCTURNE finds COLOHAN paring down his palette to the bare essentials, turning stark earthy drone folk parallel to STEVEN R. SMITH into hushed ethereal bliss embellished with angelic vocal melodies akin to FURSAXA, set in a new age ambient construct channeling HAROLD BUDD's PAVILION OF DREAMS, amplifying the zoned bygone folk flavor of the last two songs on DAVID CROSBY's IF ONLY I COULD REMEMBER MY NAME within the grand celestial influence of ENO's APOLLO and bolstered by some fantastic TERRY RILEY esque psychedelic minimalism, it's one of those rare listening experiences where as soon as it ends i'm ready to go again

ZACHARY and DENNY WILKERSON CORSA have been proliferating their "ambient / drone / experimental / ethereal noise project" since 2010 - this is their 35th album, approximately - if you consider their EPs and splits then this lands a lot closer to their 100th release, and with each new work they become more and more one of the most crucial musicmakers my ears have ever heard, and this is without question one of their absolute best yet, tilting toward the noisy shoegazing end of their spectrum with torrents of grayed out distortion, wisps of angelic tones, wistful melodies, transcending above and beyond revered works like JEFRE CANTU LEDESMA's LOVE IS A STREAM, SEAN MCCANN's THE CAPITAL and YELLOW SWANS' GOING PLACES

an ambitious sprawling ambient drone concept album, carefully considered yet very much in the moment with elements of industrial, minimalism, post rock and psychedelia, all thrown into a huge melting pot, guitars shift from ROY MONTGOMERY to STEVEN R SMITH to SPACEMEN 3, synths from ENO to SCHULZE to CARPENTER (note: fitting references, but there are no synths on this album, it is 100% guitar) - there's a lot to take in on this hour long magnum opus that is dizzyingly dynamic at times yet strongly cohesive, a singular undercurrent keeps everything together, flowing in the same direction, a tall order that TRESILAZE pulls off without a hitch

solo debut from NEBULAE frontman recorded live straight to tape in his attic, in the dead of night, just him, his guitar and an arsenal of pedals taking on the infinite darkness threatening to swallow him whole, he takes his stoner metal and shoegazing space rock roots and uses them as kindling to ignite a new beacon in his musical oeuvre, fueled by the works of EARTH and EXPO 70, casting his shadow into the rich textural territories of LOREN CONNORS and FLYING SAUCER ATTACK, righteous zoned in loops laced with hypnotic tones obliterated with blasts of white hot fuzz and feedback, all giving way to a tripped out ritualistic drone finale for the ages, thank god the neighbors didn't call the cops on him

eclectic psychedelic drone folk artist explores the hazy fringes of his semi dark semi sweet sound and ventures beyond into deeper waters, right in my wheelhouse, perhaps deliberately as this is the first work explicitly commissioned (for lack of a better word) by PSI LAB, NPS hones in on ENO's AMBIENT 4, filters NATURAL SNOW BUILDINGS through a TAKOMA tinted lens with bits of field recordings and tape manipulation, and has a good go at indulgent scuzzy outsider blues guitar bliss, giving SPARKLING WIDE PRESSURE a run for his money, then it all unravels into a glorious INDEX OF METALS esque visceral dark ambient finale, it all comes together so brilliantly, it gels so perfectly, a brazen next level leap for sure

oklahoma city by way of virgo supercluster, a four headed space hydra that feeds on entire galaxies & leaves these heady moody jams in its wake, fusing soaring space rock with a zoned in shoegaze mentality and an impressive arsenal of fuzzed out stoner metal flavored riffs, this is a cosmic post rock opera of sorts, the main engines rock n roll then burn out to deep space lonerism jettisoned for heavy psych blasters and blissed out cruisers with a finale like HAWKWIND's master of the universe comin in hot, guns blazin, fans of BARDO POND, ETERNAL TAPESTRY, CARLTON MELTON and YURI GAGARIN will wanna grip this real quick

i am a longtime fan of guitar god justin wright's unique blend of kosmische which he has proliferated for more than a decade and more than fifty albums, synthesizing entire sectors of ambient, drone and psychedelia - ASH RA TEMPEL, EARTH, ENO, SCHULZE, SUNN O))), TANGERINE DREAM - more recently evolving into a fully realized as a power trio for the ages, a mind blowing metamorphosis melding wright's deep meditative focus with the inner workings of heavy doom and stoner rock touchstones SLEEP and KYUSS, captured here as a headliner goin all out across a 66 minute set minimally edited and mixed for that live in person vibe although admittedly i have a perverse taste for crushed fly on the wall sonics, it's a nonstop trip, no breaks, no brakes, hold on to somethin and zone way out
