RECOMMENDATION #110 - JON COLLIN, TOM SETTLE & IRMA VEP

JON COLLIN, TOM SETTLE & IRMA VEP - MANCHESTER, 31 OCTOBER 2015
early music 2016, edition of ?

"Live series. One-sided C53 audio cassette (same audio on both sides). Wraparound black-and-white risograph-printed card sleeve with insert. Guitar trio, live and teetering" - EARLY MUSIC

i barely had time to digest INTERVAL MUSIC as part of the stellar batch via IRMA VEP's VERY BON (REC #100) before this "guitar trio" gem from JON COLLIN alongside TOM SETTLE and IRMA VEP, courtesy COLLIN's new imprint EARLY MUSIC "being a platform mainly for a certain kind of expressionistic solo instrumental performance; also some reissues of out-of-print Winebox Press releases and a series of bootleg-style live recordings" - this falls into the last of those categories, but both the sight and the sound sure do raise the bar for a "bootleg style live recording" -- independent threads weave together seemingly spontaneously inspired, droning tones layer and then shuffle, buzzing, humming, howling, screeching, starting heavily zoned then building to some white hot rural psychedelic slide shredding before going way off the rails into transcendental life-affirming space-time warping chaotic bliss echoing the unhinged performance on COLLIN's BURNT MONDAY but with just enough refinement to reach a whole other level i didn't know existed, so i guess just forget what i said about INTERVAL MUSIC being COLLIN's best yet because -this- is COLLIN's best yet
