LOST TRAIL - A SEJOURNER DANS CETTE CHAMBRE TOUJOURS
illuminated paths 2014, edition of 25
burlington nc husband and wife duo dealing in "lo-fi and obsolete recording technology" to create "a sense of atmosphere and landscape in both man-made and natural environments" - it's difficult to sort out what is man-made and what is natural in their music, a thick soup of ambient, drone, noise and shoegaze elements conjured by wizardly tape manipulation, other blended dualities include light & dark, soothing & abrasive, personal & detached, euphoric & mournful, nostalgic & mysterious - seemingly effortless music concrete as easy to digest as it is enthralling, compounded by their staggering back catalog with new releases incessantly pouring in from diy labels around the world, there is no "one" LOST TRAIL title to have, there is only the one(s) you have and the "next one" should you need more - and i do - and there's more than enough to go around, so many that i imagine one fan may revere a work or even an entire cluster of works that another fan has never heard, their music is something so immense it cannot be fully understood, which sounds a bit hyperbolic i suppose but it goes a long way in not just describing LOST TRAIL's discography but also the very essence of their work
ATONAL CITY IN BURNED FILM is their latest release, approximately, and perhaps their most unapologetically noisy and shoegazing like JEFRE CANTU LEDESMA LOVE IS A STREAM meets YELLOW SWANS GOING PLACES -- "a forty-minute full-length only available as a special order, never to be made available digitally" -- check out the sample here then head over to their bandcamp to claim the last cd or one of six remaining tapes
SEJOURNER is a perfect example of LOST TRAIL's ambient drone tape manipulation, incredibly alluring, hushed and intricate, an exquisite work demanding repeated close listens, lovingly assembled by the infallible ILLUMINATED PATHS and still available there
